1. Who we are
Striped is a golf swing-training application for iPhone, Apple Watch, and motion-capable AirPods. It is developed and operated by Mongo Technologies LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("Striped," "we," "us," or "our").
This Privacy Policy describes what information the Striped app and the website at stripedgolfapp.com collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the app or visits the website.
2. The short version
Striped has no accounts and asks for no personal details. Everything the app records — your sessions, your swings, your settings — is stored on your own device by default.
Only if you switch it on, or tap send yourself, can a session be uploaded to us so we can improve the swing detection. We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or third-party trackers, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
This summary is for convenience and is not a substitute for the full policy below.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Motion and swing data
The core function of Striped is measuring motion. With your permission, the app reads:
- iPhone motion sensors — accelerometer, gyroscope, and derived device motion, sampled at roughly 100 Hz while a session is running, typically with the phone in your pocket.
- AirPods head motion — head orientation and motion from motion-capable AirPods, sampled at roughly 50 Hz, used to measure head stillness during the swing.
- Apple Watch motion — if you use the optional watch companion, wrist accelerometer and rotation data at high rates during a session.
From these streams the app derives session records: detected swings, timestamps for takeaway, top of backswing, and impact, tempo ratios, head movement measurements, and similar metrics. Motion data is not used to determine your location.
3.2 Video you choose to attach
You may optionally attach a video clip from your photo library to a session, so that a recorded swing can be compared against what the sensors measured. This is entirely voluntary and no video is accessed unless you pick one. Attached clips are re-encoded on your device to a smaller format, and their metadata block — including GPS coordinates and device identifiers — is stripped before the clip ever leaves your phone.
3.3 Information stored only on your device
Session files, session names you type, your tempo preset, audio and feedback preferences, calibration values, and similar settings are stored locally on your device. We do not receive this information unless you send us a session as described below. Deleting the app removes it.
3.4 Sessions you send us
You can send session data to us so we can validate and improve swing detection against real swings. This happens in two ways, both under your control: an opt-in setting that sends a session shortly after it ends, and a manual send button in the session detail view. If you do neither, nothing leaves your device.
An upload consists of the session data file and, if you attached one, the paired video clip. Our intake endpoint records the request, including the originating IP address and timestamp, which we use to enforce upload size and rate limits.
Session uploads are received directly by a machine we operate, over an encrypted connection. They are not stored with a third-party cloud analytics provider, and they are not shared with anyone outside Mongo Technologies LLC.
3.5 Health permissions on Apple Watch
The Apple Watch companion starts a golf workout session, because that is what allows watchOS to deliver motion data at the rates Striped needs. To do that, the app asks for permission to write a workout to the Health app.
Striped requests no read access to your Health data. The app's read request set is empty: it cannot see your heart rate, workouts, activity rings, body measurements, or any other health record, and it does not ask to.
3.6 Information we receive from Apple
When you install through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple provides us with limited information as the developer of the app. This includes the email address of testers we invite to pre-release builds, aggregate installation and usage statistics, and — if you have chosen to share diagnostics with developers in your device settings — crash logs and performance reports. What Apple collects and shares is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
3.7 Website visits
The stripedgolfapp.com website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Our hosting and DNS provider processes standard request information, such as IP address and user agent, in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
4. What we do not collect
To state plainly what is absent, as of the effective date of this policy:
- No accounts. Striped has no sign-up, no login, and no password. We do not ask for your name, email address, age, or gender to use the app.
- No advertising. The app contains no ads and no advertising SDKs.
- No third-party analytics. There is no Google Analytics, Firebase, Crashlytics, or comparable analytics or crash-reporting SDK embedded in the app.
- No tracking. We do not use the advertising identifier, do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and therefore do not present App Tracking Transparency prompts.
- No location. The app does not request or use location services, and does not derive your location from motion data.
- No contacts, microphone recording, or photo library scanning. Audio is played, never recorded. Videos are only read when you specifically choose one to attach.
- No payment information. Striped is free today. If paid features are introduced, purchases will be handled by Apple and we will not receive your card details.
5. How we use information
We use the information described above only for the following purposes:
- To provide the app's function: detecting swings, measuring tempo and head movement, pacing you with audio cues, and showing your session history.
- To improve swing detection and measurement accuracy, by analyzing session data you send us — including comparing sensor measurements against video you attached — and refining our algorithms.
- To diagnose and fix bugs, crashes, and reliability problems.
- To respond to you when you contact support.
- To protect the app and our infrastructure from abuse, including enforcing upload rate and size limits.
- To comply with legal obligations that apply to us.
We do not use your swing data to build advertising profiles, and we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to developing and operating Striped.
7. Data retention
- On your device. Session files and settings remain on your device until you delete the session or uninstall the app. We have no ability to reach into your device to remove them.
- Sessions you send us. Session data you send us is retained while it remains useful for developing and validating swing detection. Because the value of this data is in the algorithm work it supports, we may retain it for the life of the product, and we may retain derived measurements and de-identified findings indefinitely.
- Support correspondence. Email you send us is retained for as long as needed to resolve your issue and to keep a reasonable record of support history.
- Server logs. Intake and website request logs are retained for a limited period for security and abuse prevention.
You can ask us to delete session data you have sent, and we will do so — see Section 9.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold:
- Uploads are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and are authenticated with a key, so the endpoint does not accept anonymous submissions.
- The upload endpoint accepts submissions only. It exposes no routes for listing, browsing, or downloading data.
- Uploads are subject to file-type, size, and rate limits, and partial transfers are discarded rather than stored.
- Video metadata, including GPS coordinates, is stripped on your device before upload.
- Access to received session data is limited to the personnel who need it to do the analysis work.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
9. Your rights and choices
9.1 Controls in the app
- Permission to read motion data can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings. Striped cannot record without it.
- Health permissions for the watch companion can be revoked in the Health app.
- Session uploading can be switched off in the app's settings; with it off, nothing is sent unless you tap send yourself.
- You can delete any session on your device, and uninstalling the app removes local data.
9.2 Requests to us
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email support@stripedgolfapp.com.
Because Striped has no accounts, we may need details from you — such as the approximate dates of the sessions you sent — to locate your data. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, generally within 30 days. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
10. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act gives you rights over your personal information.
In the preceding twelve months, we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (IP address at upload; email address if you contact us or were invited to a pre-release build by email) and internet or other electronic network activity information (app usage and the session and motion data described in Section 3). We collect these from you directly and automatically through your use of the app, for the business purposes described in Section 5.
We have not sold personal information and have not shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
California residents may request to know, delete, or correct personal information, and may not be discriminated against for doing so. Submit requests to support@stripedgolfapp.com. You may use an authorized agent, in which case we may require proof of their authority and verification of your identity.
11. International users
We operate from the United States, and information we receive is processed there. If you use Striped from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in a country whose data protection laws may differ from those of your own.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are: consent, for motion sensor access and for sending us session data, which you may withdraw at any time; legitimate interests, for improving the app, fixing defects, and protecting our infrastructure from abuse; and legal obligation, where the law requires us to process or retain information. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
12. Children's privacy
Striped is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with information, contact support@stripedgolfapp.com and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes — in particular, this policy will be revised if paid features are introduced. When we make changes we will update the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are material, we will provide a more prominent notice, such as an in-app notice before the change takes effect.
14. Contact us
